Summer-Ready Rituals to do in Winter

01/07/2025

We’ve all been there. It’s late November; the days are longer, and you no longer need that extra layer. Soon, picnics and beach days will fill your calendar, and your camera roll will be full of smiles, blue skies, and bubbles. Yet you wake in a cold sweat, realising you are nowhere near summer ready. You’re still eating like Bridget Jones going through a break-up, crawling out of bed on the sixth snooze and hiding your yeti legs. Fear not, we have created an achievable to-do list to help you avoid this scenario, and instead, stroll into summer looking and feeling great.

Eating well

It’s tempting to succumb to a pile of takeout and junk food when the days get colder, but eating well doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort. Soups, tray bakes, stews, casseroles and curries are all healthy ways to pack in nutrients whilst simultaneously feeding the soul. Investing in a slow cooker not only creates dinners that require very little preparation, but you’ll also be welcomed home by mouthwatering aromas after a long day.

Get moving

Your body will thank you when beach days roll around and you’ve got the strength and stamina to enjoy every outdoor activity. Feeling confident in how you look is a bonus. Instead of braving cold morning runs or swims, try swapping them for a gym session, Pilates class, or hot yoga.

While the movement activates your endorphins, being around people will also boost your oxytocin. Invite your friends to move with you to really push those winter blues away!

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is truly the secret behind looking and feeling good. And while it can be tempting to sleep in on those cold mornings or stay up watching comfort movies, maintaining your sleep schedule will make it easier for you in the long run. Then, when those summer days come around again, you will have the energy you need for whatever adventure awaits you.

Skincare

Staying consistent with your skin routine is the best way to ensure you’re glowing and summer ready! Icy winds and indoor heating can leave your skin (especially your lips) feeling dry and chapped, so investing in lip balm and moisturiser is a worthwhile investment. And just because it’s not summer, doesn’t mean you should forego sunscreen! Protect those beautiful pores, and you will notice the difference on your bare face in the hotter summer months.

Hair

Not sure what direction to take your hair next? Thinking of getting a fringe? Trying a new colour? What better time to experiment than winter, when you still have time to experiment, correct, or, God forbid, hide it in a ponytail or under a beanie. It also gives you time to try new styles and treatments before the busiest social season arrives. Your hair will thank you for the extra TLC, and what better way to spend a cosy night in than with a hair mask and a good book.

Hair removal

Talking about hair of a different kind - you could be up the night before your big event, foot on the sink, shaving and exhausted. Or you could start laser hair removal now and be nearly entirely hair-free by December! Let someone else do all the work. The best part is, it’s permanent. If you start now, you have plenty of time to get rid of those pesky hairs by the time summer rolls around.

Routine

It is so easy during the winter months to give up on our healthiest routines. Days are shorter, and our energy feels depleted. But that’s precisely when we need them the most. Our routines keep us healthy, and in turn, happier. It's far easier to have a routine in the summer if you’re not starting from scratch, so think long-term when you’re going through the motions each day.

Get prepared for social season

If your summer dreams are full of social events, barbecues, pool parties and cocktail hours, now is the time to get your ducks in a row. Redecorate, undertake those renovations, take cooking classes, or get the latest entertainment unit installed. Whatever will turn your home into the perfect party paradise, with you at its helm, now is the time to get started. Remember to check in with your friends too. It might be tempting to stay in and get cosy, but staying connected through a call or catch-up can help both of you feel more supported and keep the winter blues away.
